8th Legislative District Democratic Organization 

Regular Meeting Minutes

September 21, 2016

I. Call to order
Chair John Christenson called to order the regular meeting of the 8th Legislative District Democratic Organization at 6:10 PM on September 21, 2016 at the Laborers Local 348 Union Hall, 2505 Duportail St., Richland, Washington. John H. O’Brien led the Pledge of Allegiance.

II. Roll call
The following persons were present: 
John Christenson, Kate Moran, Brandi Baker, Richard Badalamente, Steve Ghan, Charles LoPresti, Kendall Miller, Misty Muchlinski, Neil Norman, John H. O’Brien, John O’Brien, Barbara O’Brien, Leo Perales, Lora Rathbone, Tony Ramirez, Matt Rutt, Megan Thompson, John Vann, Becky Voll, and Kathy Wilcox.

III. Adoption of the Agenda
The proposed agenda was distributed to the body in written form. The proposed agenda was as follows:
 A. Call to Order/Pledge of Allegiance
 B. Adoption of Agenda
 C. Approval of last meeting’s minutes
 D. Chair’s Report
 E. State Committee Meeting Report
 F. Nuclear Power Committee Report
 G. Treasurer’s Report
 H. Other New Business
 I. Adjournment The agenda was approved as distributed.

IV. Approval of last meeting’s minutes
The body was invited to read the minutes from the last meeting, held on August 17, that had been distributed. The minutes, with a few minor amendments, were approved.

Neil Norman moved as follows:
That the rules be suspended so that non-members, including precinct leaders, who have signed in are allowed to speak in debate.
Motion was seconded by Kate Moran
After no discussion, the previous question was called. The motion to end debate carried. The motion carried unanimously.

V. Chair’s Report
John Christenson temporarily gave Kate Moran the position of Chair while the report was made.

John Christenson moved as follows:
Depart from the agenda to allow Tony Ramirez to speak.
Motion was seconded by Neil Norman.
After brief discussion, the previous question was called. The motion to end debate carried. The motion carried unanimously.

VI. Tony Ramirez
Tony Ramirez spoke about the Coordinated Campaign.

VII. State Committee Meeting Report
State Committeewoman Barbara O’Brien gave a report on her experience at the Washington State Democratic Central Committee meeting on September 16 and 17, 2016.  (See attachment.)

VIII. Nuclear Power Committee Report
Chuck LoPresti spoke about how the 8th LDDO resolution titled “Retain the Columbia Generating Station” was passed by the Washington State Democratic Central Committee at its meeting with minimal changes.

IX. Treasurer’s Report
We have a balance of $2164.22. Of that balance, $447 are contributions for this year, and $223.50 is available to donate to candidates if the 8th LDDO so chooses.

X. Other New Business
Richard Badalamente spoke of the 8th LDDO’s blog.

Kate Moran spoke of the 8th LDDO’s Facebook page and the Benton County Democrats picnic on September 24, 2016.

Leo Perales spoke of a local candidate debate on September 27, 2016 and a statewide candidate debate on October 13, 2016, both being held from 6-8pm at CBC.

XI. Adjournment
Kate Moran moved to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM.
